Medina Grand Harbourside Release
Press Release | 24 August 2003 |
Located at King Street Wharf, right in the heart of Sydney’s Darling Harbour, Medina Grand Harbourside has indeed become the darling of Medina Serviced Apartments’ luxurious stable of properties.
While Australian luxury hotels claim to cater to every holidaymaker’s whim, travellers are quickly realising that the traditional hotel is moving over for the emergence of serviced apartments when choosing accommodation away from home.
Medina Grand Harbourside is a five-star beauty located at the new King Street Wharf development between the central business district and Darling Harbour.
The property was opened in September 2000, and became one of three new properties to open that year, joined by Medina Executive Sydney Central and Medina Classic Martin Place.
However, the property which offers 114 air-conditioned studio and one bedroom apartments is arguably the pick of the bunch in the last five years of expansions. There are three levels of accommodation – Deluxe, Premier and Premier Plus – many with views of the city or Darling Harbour.
Since 1994, the company has expanded from seven properties to 18, with two confirmed to open next year. Hence, the company is currently leading Australia’s serviced apartments market. The Medina Grand Harbourside property is sitting at the top end of Medina’s property portfolio, which includes Classic, Executive and Grand categories.
While hotel rooms compete in delivering luxury facilities and services, Medina Grand Harbourside’s advantage is one which even the most opulent five-star establishments cannot deliver, and that’s space. Travelling families have room to breathe and corporate travellers have room to get their business done in comfort, said managing director Allan Vidor. “We have succeeded in this market, not only because we cater to the needs and requirements of the regular traveller, but we offer many advantages the established hotel does not. Of course, our primary advantage is one of space and the ability to offer a ‘home away from home’ to the corporate traveller, rather than the uniform anonymity of the ubiquitous hotel room.”
All Medina apartments have been designed to create an atmosphere of elegance combining the comforts of home, including separate living areas and bedrooms, fully equipped kitchens, laundries and luxury bathrooms. Luxury is a word that is not to be bandied about carelessly.
Great measures have been taken to spoil the visitor, from the king size beds, marble bathrooms with fluffy towels and hair dryers to the standard in-room equipment like TV sets with in-house movies, HI FI systems and CD players. Corporates are not forgotten either, with work stations with data ports, direct dial telephones and voice mail available in all rooms. In a word, Medina is experiencing a shift in guest trends as positive reviews are getting out.
Another important group of guests are children, and special extras are available on request. Features such as the specially designed pantry service which allows guests to pre-order children’s needs, to providing a toy chest upon check-in full of goodies to keep the wee ones occupied, to providing cots and high chairs – have all been designed with children and the sanity of parents in mind. “Whereas we were once the preferred choice for extended stays of more than three days, we are now being selected for the overnights as well. Medina has taken this demand for greater and more flexible personal space and combined it with access to the latest high-speed communications in all our properties – the result has been a spectacular growth in demand for apartment-style accommodation from the time-poor corporate sector. We are also finding that guests’ levels of satisfaction for the comfort and convenience of a Medina apartment is such that they are returning with their families for weekend breaks or longer holidays,” Mr Vidor said.
Other than the in-room facilities, Medina Grand Harbourside also offers leisure travellers daily servicing, security parking, a licensed restaurant, child minding, grocery delivery service, laundry and dry cleaning service, heated indoor pool, gymnasium, sauna and masseurs and personal trainers arranged by appointment. An ideal venue for conferences, meetings and cocktails, offering four conference rooms, special meal and accommodation packages, business services, video conferencing, fax capabilities, datalines, modem connections and delegate parking.
