10 of Perth’s favourite places to dine out

With more restaurants and café per capita than any other city in Australia, and some of the country’s best wines grown within a two-hour drive, finding somewhere to eat and drink is easy. The best range of options in the city are along Hay, Murray and King streets. On the city outskirts Subiaco buzzes with stylish restaurants and wine bars Rokeby Road and Hay Street is where you'll find most of the action. Harbour-side Freo (Fremantle) is the place to go for Italian and fish restaurants and locally brewed beers. Beaufort Street in Mt Lawley is fast gaining a reputation for fine dining with some of Perth's best new restaurants as well as a mix of noodle, pizza bars and busy pubs. Oxford Street in Leederville is always busy in the evenings, but the place to head for if you want to party the night way is Northbridge where you'll find restaurants offering every cuisine imaginable, as well as pubs, bars and clubs.

1. Gino’s:

you can’t get much more Freo than this. This buzzy Italian café in the heart of Fremantle’s cappuccino strip has been creating coffee history with Gino’s special blend since 1983. Great spot for people watching. 1 South Terrace, Fremantle. Tel: (08) 9336 1464.

2. Trigg Island Café:

perfect for a late breakfast, light lunch or beachside snack with glorious views over the Indian Ocean. 360 West Coast Drive, Trigg. Tel: (08) 9447 0077.

3. Villa Bianchi:

in the heart of the surfing action at Scarborough Beach. 1 Scarborough Beach Road, Scarborough. Tel: (08) 9245 2001 .

4. Lamont’s:

watch the world float by from the waterside dining room on the edge of the Claisebrook Inlet. Sophisticated décor and simple, fresh food – the specialty is marron. 11 Brown Street, East Perth. Tel: (08) 9202 1566.

5. Frasers Restaurant:

set in magnificent parkland with Perth laid out at your feet. Great Australian seafood and local produce accompanied by an equally impressive Australian wine list. Frasers Ave, Kings Park, West Perth. Tel: (08) 9481 7100.

6. The Old Swan Brewery:

café-restaurant and micro brewery in the redeveloped original 1877 Swan Brewery with panoramic views across the Swan River. 173 Mounts Bay Road, Perth. Tel: (08) 9211 8999.

7. Indiana Teahouse:

right on Cottesloe Beach, all tables have fabulous Indian Ocean views. The best place to go to watch the sunset behind beyond Rottnest Island. 99 Marine Parade, Cottesloe. Tel: (08) 9385 5005.

8. Cicerello’s Fish and Chips:

much more than your average fish ‘n’ chip shop. Housed in a boatshed style building facing Fremantle’s famous Fishing Boat Harbour, Cicerello’s still sells the real thing, freshly caught seafood including oysters, mussels, crabs and crayfish and chips wrapped in butcher’s paper. 9. Kailis Bros Fish Market and Café:

frequent winner of the best Fish and Chips in Western Australia award is a cheap and cheerful café specialising in freshly caught seafood and fish, and a friendly atmosphere. Fishing Boat Harbour, 46 Mews Road, Fremantle. Tel: (08) 9335 7755.

10. The Red Tea Pot:
