1. Luna Park:

has been thrilling kids of all ages in Sydney ever since it first opened in 1935. The park’s mix of favourite rides, new attractions and huge range of entertainment make it the perfect place just for fun. Best of all, entry to Luna Park is free! 2. Taronga Zoo:

spectacularly sited zoo with terrific views of the city skyline. A range of specialist tours and Sky Safari cable car as well as all the usual animal exhibits. Ferries depart Circular Quay, every quarter past and quarter to the hour. Open daily, 9am-5pm. Adults: $32, kids $17.50.

3. Powerhouse Museum:

a unique and diverse collection of 385,000 objects spanning history, science, technology, design, industry, decorative arts, music, transport and space exploration. 500 Harris Street Ultimo, near Darling Harbour. Open daily 10am-5pm. Adults: $10, kids $5.

4. Australian Museum:

Australia's oldest museum, established in 1827, with unique and extensive collections of natural science and cultural artifacts. Free guided tours daily. 6 College Street Sydney (opposite Hyde Park). Open daily, 9.30am-5pm. Adults: $10, kids $5.

5. Harbour Jet:

wet and wild: if your idea of seeing the sights includes a good dose of thrills and a guarantee of getting wet, then Harbour Jet is definitely the thing to do on Sydney Harbour. The jet boats offer a range of trips, from 35-minute ‘jet blasts’ to 80-minute ‘Middle Harbour Adventures’. Tours start at $60 per adult, $40 for kids. Family tickets are available. 6. James Craig:

cruise the harbour on an authentic, working, tall-masted, sailing ship. The 19th century three-masted iron barque, James Craig, sails every second Saturday. 7. Explore Telstra Stadium Tour:

go behind the scenes of some of the country’s greatest sporting moments. The ‘hands on’ tour also allows sports fans to test their skills with a demonstration of the major sports played at the Stadium. Adults: $27.50, kids $15. www.telstrastadium.com.au

8. Sydney Aquarium:

walk under water in the Oceanarium, check out the sharks, stingrays, penguins and seals in one of the world’s largest aquariums. Open daily 9am-10pm. Darling Harbour. Adults: $27.50, kids $14. www.sydneyaquarium.com.au

9. Australian Reptile Park and Wildlife Sanctuary:

kids love the snakes, spiders and creepy crawlies at this park around an hour north of Sydney. Pacific Highway Somersby. Open daily 9am-5pm. Adults: $20, kids $13. www.reptilepark.com.au

10. Quarantine Station Ghost Tour:

Sydney Quarantine Station, built in 1832 on North Head near Manly, was the first point of arrival for immigrants until 1984, and sadly, for the sick and those dying of diseases such as smallpox and TB, it was their last. Every Friday at 6pm there is a two-hour ghost tour for kids where children aged 6-12 can help the rangers hunt down the legendary ghosts of the Quarantine Station, listening to tales of our resident ghosts and getting spooked by creatures that go bump in the night.
